This design studio takes the Liou-Ran site in Hsinchu as its base. As an industrial relic from the Japanese colonial period, the site embodies layers of memory and traces of life shaped by war, industrialization, military housing settlements, and urban transformation.
The course begins with explorations of sense of place, sense of time, memory, and everyday life, examining how the site can be interpreted, represented, and rewritten. Situated between history, reality, and imagination, students are encouraged to activate the site’s latent narrative potential through architectural design, while addressing key issues surrounding the reproduction of cultural space.
